UC Davis Joins National Leadership Group on Health and Human Sciences

The University of California, Davis, has joined the Board on Health and Human Sciences within the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities, with Associate Dean of Human and Social Sciences Amanda Guyer serving as the university’s representative on the national leadership group.

Guyer, a professor in the Department of Human Ecology, is a leading researcher in adolescent mental health and brain development. She will bring her expertise and collaborative approach to the board’s work on health and human sciences.

“I'm excited to learn from and work together with others to help build our human and social sciences portfolio,” Guyer said. “Human and social sciences in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences represents a large portion of our undergraduate students and the career paths that they pursue, so I think that this will allow for a two-way flow of information for us to keep track of trends and find new connections for initiatives, while also bringing those insights back to support our students.”

The board brings together leaders from universities across the country to share ideas, build partnerships and find new ways to improve health and well-being through research, education and outreach.

This is the first time UC Davis has joined as an institutional member of the board.

As part of the board, Guyer will join events and activities hosted by APLU, including its Annual Meeting scheduled to be held in Texas this November, where senior leaders from across APLU member institutions gather to discuss higher education priorities and national issues.
