Kristin Kiesel, a professor of teaching in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics, is the new associate dean for Undergraduate Academic Programs as of Oct. 1.

Kiesel, who joined UC Davis in 2015 is known as a kind, inclusive and supportive role model who teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in several topics, including behavioral economics, cooperative business enterprise and agricultural commodity markets. 

The College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at UC Davis is a powerhouse of research, teaching and outreach recognized around the globe for its expertise, hands-on teaching and dedication to solving local, national and world challenges. 

We couldn’t get there without the excellence and dedication of our faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends of the college. 

The college recognizes people for their outstanding achievements, support, leadership and service to the college with an Award of Distinction.  

Dean Ashley M. Stokes and Associate Dean Anne Todgham with the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at UC Davis will participate in the first ever Agriculture Day at the California State Fair. 

The July 18 event is sponsored by the California Farm Bureau and the California Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom. Events will run from 10 a.m to 11 p.m. in the Tractor Supply Company Big Barn.

Professors Johan Leveau and Jorge Mazza Rodrigues will take over as chairs of the Department of Plant Pathology and Department of Land, Air and Water Resources, respectively, Dean Ashley M. Stokes from the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences announced. 

The appointments took effect July 1, 2026.

Leveau, who is a microbial ecologist and professor, has served as interim chair since January, replacing Dave Rizzo. 

Frank Mitloehner, an air quality specialist, professor and director of the CLEAR Center, will be the new chair of the Department of Animal Science, which has the highest undergraduate enrollment in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. 

Dean Ashley M. Stokes called Mitloehner a distinguished member of the faculty who has had a significant impact in animal agriculture, environmental sustainability and public engagement.
