UC Davis Nutrition Experts Honored for Their Impact

Four researchers with the UC Davis Department of Nutrition are being recognized for their contributions to advancing nutrition science and health.
The American Society for Nutrition (ASN) recently announced its 2025 Excellence in Nutrition Fellows, including three from UC Davis. Professor Christine Stewart; project scientist Daniela Hampel; and associate adjunct professor Danielle Lemay, who is also a research scientist at USDA ARS Western Human Nutrition Research Center, are being recognized for their continued impact on the field and their active engagement within the nutrition community.
The program honors professionals who have shown a long-term commitment to nutrition science. The first group of fellows includes 55 members who are at least 10 years beyond earning their highest academic degree and have been ASN members for at least five years. Fellows are chosen for their significant career achievements and ongoing contributions to the nutrition field.
ASN and its foundation also announced that associate professor Lauren Au has received the General Mills Bell Institute of Health and Nutrition Innovation Award, which recognizes an individual whose scientific contributions advance the understanding of healthy dietary patterns, which includes whole grains, cereals, fruits, vegetables and/or dairy. This award is endowed by the General Mills Bell Institute of Health and Nutrition.
"The department is thrilled to celebrate the achievements of Christine, Danielle, Daniela, and Lauren,” said department chair Gerardo Mackenzie. “These ASN awards and fellowships recognize their dedication and outstanding contributions to nutrition research, and their accomplishments continue to position our department as a premier nutrition department in the world."
